Terry started playing piano at age 6, taking an interest in learning pop around age 14. He continued to study Classical Music and achieved the highest level in private study (ARCT Level) by age 17. He studied with famous Winnipeg piano teacher John Melnyk.
Around age 16 Terry began playing in basement bands. Inspired by the synthesizer in “Spaceship Superstar “, by Prism, he started playing synth, organ, string machine and clavinet in rock bands. In 1979 he started playing pro in clubs and cabarets. Playing in various original and cover bands gave him experience in composing and improvising.
In 1984 Terry began teaching in music schools such as Major and Minor and, in 1985, Mar-Schell’s Music. He used early computer software programs to arrange music for students of all beginners levels , printing out arrangements, as opposed to other instructors by hand. His love for teaching drove him to open Keyboard Ventures Music in 1992.
Currently playing in “Tune Raiders” with Mark Galbon and original band, ”Velvette ” with our own Dan Scaletta, which is how we convinced him to take a few select students with us.
